Verstappen has the speed and time (age) on his side. Hamilton has experience and an amazing connection with his tires over any driver on the track. Together would be hell having them on the same team. You can’t have two dominant drivers on the same team with out a soul ripping drama. But Red Bull has a consistent and quick pit crew

Why RB were faster than Merc - they have a flexi wings front and back, that stretch the regulations to the very limit - if not beyond. The rear wing flexes back, reduces drag on the straights and allows for higher acceleration out of fast corners. The front wing does the same. There - I didn't need a 54 minute video to explain that.

I doubt debris because: same tyre type, almost same tyre usage, same tyre on the car, 4 different cars, same place on track. If it is a damage to the tyre, then i rather suspect of a piano bolt raised, in order to be capable of that repeatability.

Lots of talk about "Tyre Issues" for this race, Some teams switching them on! Some teams unable to switch them on! & the "Blow-Outs" etc.. But i hear Nobody ever mention the fact that these are extremely high speeds on "Public-Roads/Highways".. Surely this is a very different kind of Tarmac/Asphalt to the kind of compounds that must be specially engineered for "Race-Circuits"?!? Not to mention most city streets can have a different road surface from one street to the next! Does the Baku Street Circuit have the same surface on every section of street they use?? Public roads have patch repairs done all of the time! With all of this, how can you get a consistant measure of a tyres behaviour? Where is the benchmark to work from?

His breaks cooked, he did indeed misjudge the breaking and he lost it. Why we're still entertaining this magic break switch is beyond me now. We get it, Hamilton can do no wrong. In the real world, he lost.

I fail to see how the upcoming races at Paul Ricard, Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring benefit Mercedes. Without stating one of them has "the faster" car, it is obvious any difference that may be there is a lot smaller than it was in previous seasons. With this bigger performand difference we already saw; - P2 an P4 for the two recent Paul Ricard races for VER even with stronger Mercedeses AND stronger Ferrari's - Max winning 2/3 Austrian Grand prix at the Red Bull Ring over the past 3 years and a P2 at the Styrian GP 2020 - Lewis and Max splitting points evenly during the two Silverstone races in 2020 With MERs and RBs more or less equal now the normal expectation would be; Better results than these historical results for RBR, so something like P2,P1,P1,P1 in that order.

@MPal24 Yep - I was gutted when they stuck with bottas instead of taking Russell on this season. I think Bottas' lack of performance will lose them the constructor's championship. Hamilton has a number two driver but not a wingman
MPal24
MPal24 11 dager siden
Yes and no. It is in their interest IF they crash into each other and it gifts Mercedes a heap of points, but it's not if Red Bull can out-do Mercedes strategically and win races they shouldn't like Mercedes have managed. The problem Mercedes have isn't just the rise of Perez, but the decline of Bottas. He looks so tired and done with F1 right now, so he probably won't be there for the team to try anything interesting strategy-wise - he certainly wasn't in Baku. In a pure driver vs driver perspective, I think Lewis will edge the championship, but from a team perspective, at this rate, Red Bull will solidly be constructor's champions.

Why do people rate Vettel? Honest question. Yes, a nice bloke. But destroyed by every teammate apart from 1, and that was Mark Webber, who's not a shabby driver but the only guy he won a WC's against. @Robert M Some very valid and well-made points. But personally, my opinion is set fast. The greats destroy their teammates. A consistent pattern. And those that don't are simply not that great.
Robert M
Robert M 12 dager siden
Don't forget about beating Kimi Raikkonen when they were teammates. Kimi beat Hamilton in a worse car (2007). Also keep in mind Webber beat Rosberg when they were teammates, and Rosberg really gave Lewis a run for his money. I remember watching 2009-13 rooting for Hamilton and watching Vettel dominate. He seemed absolutely unstoppable, like Lewis has been since 2014. Every weekend Hamilton would get pole and then Vettel would snatch it away at the last moment. He won a 4-way championship battle against world champions in 2009, and brought Toro Rosso their first win against the odds. He is an exceptional driver. Seeing how he's struggled the last few years makes it seem like we're talking about completely different drivers. I think most of that comes down to the current formula not suiting his driving style. In 2009-13 we had lightweight, high rpm banshees with blown diffusers. Since 2014 (and when Vettel started struggling against his teammates), the cars have much higher torque, rev lower and are heavier. The Red Bull and Ferrari also tend to run higher rake, whereas the Aston doesn't. So it would be nice to see Seb back to his old ways if the car suits him.

Everyone thinks that is Bottas is swapped for Russell then things will get better for Hamilton, then you are wrong. Russell is time bomb well for merc as we had seen in the Baharin gp how fast Russell was and I strongly believe that Russell will be willing to throw away his chances for Hamilton. All the times Hamilton gets a good and strong teammate and when they out-perform him(Hamilton) then he gets angry at the team at his teammates (at Nico everytime he had won), also when he seems to be in one on one with a much yonger opponent he tries to play dirty (against Alex albon). There is the issue with toto also as he has been favouring Hamilton since the beginning

Hamilton and Button seemed fine as teammates. They were both extremely quick. It might be a good team if Toto makes it clear to Russell that he's no2 until Hamilton retires, and should use driving with a 7 time works champion as a learning experience.

Even with the Hamilton lockup, I think he was the overall winner this weekend. Max was nailed on to extend championship lead on a weekend where Mercedes were nowhere, still a huge missed opportunity but two strong red bull street circuits out the way and only a 4 point deficit. Hamilton fan but I was kind of pleased he didn't score the points, was such bad luck for Max and no one wants to see such a close hard fought championship being determined on a dodgy tyre issue despite what Pirelli are saying. Excited for more to come and it was a great weekend for F1 with that podium.

Not sure if anyone realizes but out of all the moves in 2021 Vettel/ AMR is the most successful move so far even intra team battle Vettel is ahead of Stroll, no other driver who moved to new team is ahead of their teammate in drivers points.

@MeltingRubberZ28 Who says Stroll is trash? You? If Stroll is trash so are Perez, Sainz Jr, Riccardo. I hope you carry the same opinion abt Mick Schumacher as well. And the comparison is accurate cause all of them came from money. Do you even know drivers who came from working class backgrounds or u just running ur mouth here. Stroll is as good as any other driver in the paddock but ur entitled to ur opinion. I mean I never heard F1 commentators or media ever question his presence in F1 but I guess ur better than all of them right. 😂

@Mich Gordillo I'm sorry but until 2020 season end everyone was like Seb was done and he needs to retire blah blah. Now suddenly we shall trash Lance Stroll because he came from money. Well Perezs comes from a very successful business family, Leclercs grand father has his own plastic factory and his father himself owned few small industries he said in an interview during F2, Riccardos father has logistics company in Australia and Sainz father was a rally driver himself. Oh btw Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda also came into F1 like Stroll but I guess u weren't complaining abt them did you?

The 2021 tyre compound, universally disliked by drivers after testing it in 2020, was built to withstand the cornering loads the cars experienced in the British GP, right? Baku's cornering loads aren't even that high, so either the kerbs were causing cuts to the tyres, or we're going to have another complete fustercluck when we reach Silverstone. Bring back tyre wars, I say.

With such a difficult window for operating the tyres in, a tyre war would have been awesome this era. As ultimately what holds back either Red Bull or Mercedes depending on circuit, track temp etc at one weekend or another is who can fire up the tyres more. Mercedes struggled last 2 races, Red Bull struggled in Spain. Imagine if they could both go to alternative manufacturers to optimize their cars performance bringing different allocations each weekend, would add an entire strategy element and allow them both to be more racey.

I love Checo and think he is the guy for the job at RB but we don’t know how good or bad Albon would have been in this years car. The 2021 car has a much more stable and planted rear end therefore making it an easier car to drive. Everyone talked about how it would have been a shame if Checo wouldn’t have got a ride this season and I think we should all be nearly as vocal about Albon not having a seat. He clearly showed he has talent and I really hope he gets another chance but sadly I think RB has sidelined him permanently. We could do with 2 more teams in Formula 1 in my humble opinion. Anyone got any pocket change around.

1st I said Checo is the right guy for the job. 2nd Checo did win a phenomenal race all the way from last in 2020 but it wasn’t in the 2020 ice skate of a RB and has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. 3rd. Both guys are good enough to be in Formula 1 and it would be embarrassing if Checo wasn’t better than Albon with his 1000 years of formula 1 experience.

Max, Marko, Horner, and Perez himself admit what his role is and everyone is going to be happy with him being P2 or ocassionally winning. Meanwhile Bottas, Hamilton and Toto can't ever admit that Bottas is second dirver which leads to riddiculous and said situations. @Archie Bacsa Porcypt Exactamundo, Their longer wheelbase allows for more precise and controlled airflow over the entire chassis. They don't have to "bend" or "distort" the air as much as RB has to in order to direct air to the places where it is needed. That in turn causes a lot less drag for them on the straits. Also coincidentally one of the reasons why Wolf would be crying wolf about "bendy" rear wings, even though said "bendy" rear wings are perfectly within the allowable tolerances as specified in section 3.9 of the regulations. It just so happened that at Baku RB had so much of an advantage in the bendy sections that the advantage the Merc had on the strait was negated completely. At the start line the Hamilton was 0.2 behind Perez each and every lap. At the end of sector 2 after turn 15 Perez was over 1 sec ahead of Hamilton each and every lap. Perez drove a complete stonker of a race. He knew what he had to do to keep Hamilton behind him, and instead of sitting on the radio complaining about speed differentials on the strait, he got on with the job and did what he had to in sectors 1 and 2 to make sure Hamilton can not get the jump on him at the end of the lap. He had Hamilton breathing down his neck for two thirds of the race and he handled it beautifully. Pity about the DNFs, which in my mind Pirelli seriously needs to answer for. But in the end, does not matter who you support, it gives us a decent title fight to look forward to. Maybe if Perez keeps going like he does he can even come into contention for WDC if Hamilton and Verstappen takes each other out somewhere down the line. There is just so much up in the air this year and it makes it exciting to watch. Anything can happen at any race from this point on.
Archie Bacsa Porcypt
Archie Bacsa Porcypt 13 dager siden
@Heinrich Etsebeth tru, also not only about the aero, The merc's technically have the advantage in the straights by default thanks to their longer wheelbase since it provides more stability but Redbulls car takes a lot less effort in general to take around a corner thanks to its shorter wheelbase therefore making up for the loss in stability that was lost after the rule changes to the floor
Heinrich Etsebeth
Heinrich Etsebeth 13 dager siden
Yet the Mercedes dominated the straits in Baku where RedBull dominated the corners. The RB has a shorter wheel base helping them in the corners but sacrifices aero in other areas. Your statement should actually be reversed.

This dude doing this video is terrible, sounds like he doesn't even know what he's talking about. And honestly all you quote Formula 1 experts, that are armchair quarterbacks it's really getting old. You people always have the answers can always do it better but you don't do anything with your lives. You not talented enough to be in the sport, so you have to spend your life talking about it. Stfu already. Seriously F1 fans are the worst fans of any sport. Every single one of you Meatheads talks about the sport like you can do it better. Why don't you try to do something with your life then. Stop making your living off somebody else's Talent

We learned that the Sir got a golden opportunity to win undeserving race. Good job Masi ! Toto's going to buy you a beer. Pirelli claim no responsibility ..... Surprised ?
